crUsh

i have spent too many nights and wasted too many pills of tylenol wondering why men act the way they do and have spent a highly disappointing chunk of my post-high school life trying to figure out if a guy really REALLY likes me. But over the years, I've collected a good amount of tests that more or less indicate whether a man truly is feeling you...or if he is interested in having a horizontally good time (which i will refer to from now on as WBTW: What's Below The Waist). Thus, allow me to present to the masses the simple ways to tell if a guy likes a girl. hopefully i will really save us ladies some time because we all know how agonizing it can be to try to read a man and his motive.

He calls when he "is bored". Okay, let's get real here. Men never get bored. Because when they even feel boredom creeping up their skin, they either sleep, masturbate, or find some random sport to watch. The rest of his life is spent with his boys or doing whatever else men do to make their living. so when he calls you CLAIMING to be bored, that usually translates to "I was thinking about you but can't lose a significant percentage of my manhood by giving that away". He is calling because somehow, someway, you got under his skin before he had the chance to successfully block out the thought of even letting such a thing happen. Men don't like admitting that they like a girl...not initially at least. So trust me when I say that if he gives you the Pointless Phonecall, that's a very good thing. Because any man who calls a woman without wanting SOMEthing is a man who really likes her.

he calls you in the morning or before he sleeps. self-explanatory. means the dude wanted you to be the last thing on his mind before he went to bed and the first thing on his mind when he woke up. one of the most precious phone calls a woman can get, actually. even better when he calls you when he can't sleep. *sigh*...the cuteness!

he actually listens. men are notorious for wanting to have fun without the commitment. but if he really likes you, he will not only pay attention to you when you speak, but he will remember details and even ask you for unvolunteered information. For example, if you tell him that your major is history and he takes it upon himself to ask you what you want to do when you finish school, that means he actually gives a damn. but be careful...men are slick and the bastards sometimes pretend to be interested in your stats when he's really using it as bait for WBTW. but if you find yourself rarely having to repeat something you told him already, then you should be in pretty good shape.

he remembers your closest friends' names. trust me, it may not seem like such a big deal, but if he can remember Jackie, Jennifer, and Janice too, then he plans on keeping you around for a while. It's simply because he recognizes that your best friends ain't going anywhere and that he's the one who may get cut out your life at any given moment. Your friends are forever, and he may not even get that far, so knowing your friends' names is an "I Like You" sign from a man who really wants to be around. if he refers to people as "your sister" or "your best friend" for a prolonged period of time, then he clearly isn't thinking much 'bout his future, now is he?

you know his friends. and not only do you know them, but they know your name and are familiar enough with you to call you by your first name. if THEY even know your name, then that guy must like you because even his boys took the time of day to remember who you are.

he does something for you that he hates doing. if he tries to cook when he's never touched more than five pots in his entire life, or if he's watched corny love movies that no man wants to get caught watching in public, then damn. He likes you. End of discussion.

he shows a genuine interest in meeting and getting to know your family. another easy way to tell that he wants to be around for a while. a man who actually wants to be liked by the relatives is a goooooood sign.

you catch him staring at you. and i'm not talking about the bedroom stare. I'm talking about the stare of curiosity and fascination; the I Can't Get Enough Of You look. the pupils tell it all. sometimes all it takes is a look to know EXACTLY how a man feels.

he admits when he is wrong and actually fights for an apology. if he keeps trying to make you forgive him, then trust me when i say that he's not wasting his energy on someone he doesn't like. he's afraid of losing you and genuinely is sorry whatever error he made. and if he REALLY likes you, he won't make that mistake again.

he's not afraid to call you first. okay, so maybe you told him you'd call him in the morning but you forgot. he's not afraid to call you that afternoon because he was thinking about you. that shows that he can let his guard down and lower his pride enough to call you even though you messed up the Calling Protocol.

he's never "Busy". now of course he's going to be occupied at times, but if he really likes you then he won't just call his occupation "busy". he will actually tell you what it is he is doing.

he talks about past relationships. if he can mention his exes, then he is comfortable with you and has nothing to hide. It also shows that he is capable of growing with you and exploring the possibility of something in the future.

he tells you how he feels. and i'm not talking about him feeling excited about something or pissed about another. if he really can tell you what hurts him or admit when he is sad about something, then he is trusting you with the MOST IMPORTANT thing to a man: his ego. If this isn't a sure sign that he likes you, then I don't know what is.

of course, these aren't the only signs. just some tips. but honestly, if you ever find yourself thinking about whether a guy likes you, then you should leave him alone. because if he's too busy playing games and pretending to not like you as much as he really does, then he's a professional IDIOT and i suggest you walk away quickly. you should never have to wonder if a man likes you. his ACTIONS should say it all, because WORDS don't always match one's feelings. it's easier to write a play than act in one...find yourself someone who doesn't have to pen a manuscript just to Shakespeare his way into your heart. He needs to play the part like he was the inspiration for the role, because if he wants to be serious with you, then you BETTER not settle for anything less.

i will be constantly adding to this list, and if you have any suggestions just leave me a comment and i'll put it in :)

DST National Convention

Day 1
my flight to philly was at 6:15 am. *sigh* i definitely didn't sleep last night, and i almost missed my flight. but i made it, wearing my red and white and sporting my black Delta bag. In case you didn't know, i'm in philly from today till wed. for my sorority's 48th convention. i got off the plane and thought my luggage was lost, but i found it on some random belt that wasn't the one specified when i got off the plane. i saw my Soror Sheryl Lee Ralph (my fellow Jamaican, she played mommy on Moesha back in the day) at the airport looking like a diva in her red suit and bright makeup. i wanted to say hi but i punked out lol. so anyway, Deltas are everywhere. in the airport, on the street, in the hotel i'm staying in. I went to get registered today at the Philly Convention Center and i'd never seen so many Deltas in my life! Everyone was SO loving and social. complete strangers were exchanging "hey Soror!"s and warm smiles everywhere they went. it was a complete sea of red and white the entire day. since i'm the delegate for my chapter, i had to sit through some meetings most of the day...but then i got to go to the vendor's area that is set up in one part of the convention center. the AMOUNT of Delta gear i saw...wooooow....Delta pencils, bags, clothing, earrings, bedspreads, soap holders, notebooks, shoes, car mats, door mats, lamps...EVERYTHING you could imagine had Delta Sigma Theta in or on it somewhere. it was such a beautiful sight :)
philly in general is very old looking, like a city that hasn't been dusted off in years. but it is beautiful in a rustic scenery kind of way. the buildings are tall, UPenn is right around the corner from my hotel, and the Penn Station just down the street. so far i love Philly and can't get enough of my sisterly Sorors in this city of Brotherly Love! :)

Day 2
Today was a veeery interesting day. the opening ceremony was in the morning. it was beautiful! all the voting delegates were seated in the front so we got to walk in with an entrance, holding up a sign of our respective chapters. twas nice. ^_^ After that, me and one of my Sorors went to a mall that we found hidden a couple blocks from the convention center. turns out that Macy's shut down their entire store and had it open just for Deltas, with 15 percent off everything. then i rushed back to the hotel to get ready for the step show, which was AMAZING! lots of my line sisters came to the show and a lot of my prophytes were in the very front row so i spent most of the time in the front taking pics and recording parts of the show (even though I wasn't supposed to, lol). after the show, we went to Club Delta, which was a party at the Loew's Hotel. There were lots of bruhs there but mostly Deltas of course. After that, i met a bruh and he told me about a set out party at another bruh's house so we got some food and then seven of my line sisters and I went with him and his line brother over there. it was cool; there were a lot of people there just socializing. we didn't get back till 7 in the morning...and i woke up late on Sunday which is why this post is so late lol. so yeah, that was my Saturday! :-)

Days 3 and 4
okay, so on sunday, i slept most of the day because i finally didn't have any mandatory things to go to. my bruh came over to hang with me for a bit and then my spec and i took a lil tour around philly and i ate my first philly cheesesteak. yum :) that was about it. today (monday) i had to go to another delegate's meeting, which was cool. then we had a caucus afterwards that i didn't really want to go to but i was glad i did in the end because it was very informative. then i bought some more para... then i came back to the hotel to get ready for a gala. that was pretty nice too. kelly price performed; she looked so beautiful! her voice is AMAZING. then we came back to the hotel and here I am, updating you :)

Days 5 and 6
okay, so the last two days of the convention were nice. My chapter, Mu Gamma, won COLLEGIATE CHAPTER OF THE YEEEEAR! so yeah, we are DAMN proud of that :). The closing banquet was beautiful. i left thursday morning and flew straight to L.A. to see cousins on my mommy's side of the fam. it was great seeing them :) i just got back from there today, and i have to be back at work tomorrow morning. *sigh*, even though it was a two week vacation, i haven't had a day's rest yet. this weekend, i am vegging out. cuz i deserve it. dammit. ^_^ later!
